How to use the Date Difference Calculator
Whether you are counting the days until a holiday, the length of a project or the time between two events, this calculator gives you the answer in several useful units at once.
Pick a start date and an end date. The tool shows the difference as years, months and days, as total days and hours, as weeks plus leftover days, and as business days (Monday to Friday). If the end date is earlier than the start, the dates are swapped automatically so you always get a positive result.
By default the count excludes the end date, so the days between 1 and 2 January equal one day. Tick the include option when you need an inclusive count, for example when calculating the length of a hotel stay in nights versus the number of calendar days on which an event is held.
Business days skip Saturdays and Sundays but do not know about public holidays, which vary by country and year; subtract those manually if needed. Calendar math is done in UTC so that daylight saving time changes cannot add or remove a day. Use the results for contracts, notice periods, pregnancy tracking, visa stays, or study plans.
Frequently asked questions
Does the count include the end date?
Not unless you tick the “include the end date” box. Without it, the count is the number of days elapsed between the two dates.
Are public holidays excluded from business days?
No. Only weekends are excluded because holidays differ by country and region.
Do leap years and daylight saving matter?
Leap days are counted correctly, and daylight saving changes do not affect the result because the calculation uses whole calendar dates.
