How to play Hangman
Hangman is a classic guessing game. A secret word is shown as a row of blanks, and you guess one letter at a time. A correct guess reveals every place the letter appears. A wrong guess adds a part to the drawing. If the drawing is finished after six wrong guesses, you lose; if you complete the word first, you win.
Pick a category from animals, food, places and technology, then click a letter on the screen or press a key on your keyboard. Letters you have used are greyed out so you cannot waste a guess. A message tells you how many wrong guesses remain, and a new word is chosen whenever you start a new game or change category.
For the best chance of winning, begin with the most common letters in English, such as E, A, R, I, O, T and N, and then look at the pattern of blanks to decide. Vowels often unlock the structure of a word quickly, and longer words give you more chances to find repeated letters. Think about common endings such as “ing” and “tion”.
The game is a good way for children to practise spelling and for adults to enjoy a quick break. It works with touch, mouse and keyboard, and nothing is stored or uploaded.
