How to use the Color Palette from Image

Great colour schemes are often borrowed from nature, art and photography. This tool finds the main colours in any picture so you can reuse them in a website, presentation, brand kit, knitting pattern or room makeover.

Choose an image and the tool samples thousands of its pixels, then groups similar shades using k-means clustering, a standard technique for colour quantisation. Each group becomes a swatch showing its HEX code, its RGB values and the percentage of the image it covers. Move the slider to ask for anything from two to twelve colours: fewer gives a bold summary, more reveals subtle accent tones.

Click any swatch to copy its HEX code. The CSS box lists the palette as custom properties, ready to paste into a stylesheet. To grab one exact shade, such as the colour of a logo or a sky, click that spot on the picture and the sampled colour appears below it with a copy button.

Large dominant colours such as backgrounds will appear first because they cover the most area. The image is analysed on your device and never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How are the colours chosen?

The tool clusters similar pixels and averages each cluster, so each swatch represents a group of related shades in the picture.

Why do I get slightly different colours than a design app?

Different apps sample and group pixels in different ways. Use the click-to-pick option for one exact pixel.

Is the image uploaded?

No. All analysis happens in your browser.
