In brief

The Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 on Sunday night in Game 2 of the National League Division Series, levelling the best-of-five series at one game each.

According to the Associated Press, Michael Harris II tripled in the fifth inning and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch, then added an insurance run with a double in the seventh. He finished a home run short of hitting for the cycle.

Both teams turned it into a bullpen game after Atlanta knocked out Dodgers starter Blake Snell in the fourth inning. With ace Chris Sale given extra rest, the Braves used Ray Kerr as an opener and then 21-year-old Didier Fuentes, who allowed one run over 3 2/3 innings, MLB.com reported. Max Muncy’s ninth-inning home run brought the Dodgers within a run, but closer Raisel Iglesias got the final out for the save.

Manager Walt Weiss said earning a split in Los Angeles was a big result for his team. The series moves to Atlanta for Game 3 on Tuesday, when Chris Sale is scheduled to start.

Why it matters

Winning one of the first two games on the road gives the Braves home-field momentum in a short series against one of baseball’s strongest teams.
