How to play Block Builder

Block Builder is a small creative sandbox. You see a side-on view of a landscape made of square blocks, and you can add or remove blocks anywhere you like. There are no goals, scores or timers, so it works as a calm way to doodle with blocks or plan a bigger idea.

Choose a block from the palette: grass, dirt, stone, wood, leaves, sand, brick, glass or water. Tap or click a square to place it, or press and drag to paint a whole line. Switch to Erase to remove blocks, or to Fill to replace an entire connected area in one tap, which is handy for walls and skies. Sand is the only block that falls, so remove what is underneath and watch it drop.

A few ideas to start with: a house with a brick roof and glass windows, a tree line using wood and leaves, a bridge over a pond, or a staircase of stone. Undo steps back through your last 40 changes. New landscape generates fresh rolling hills with trees.

Your build is saved automatically in this browser. To share it, press Copy build code and send the text to a friend, who can paste it into the box below the game and press Load. On a keyboard, number keys 1 to 9 pick blocks, E erases, F fills and Ctrl+Z undoes.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as other block games?

No. It is an original, simplified 2D builder with its own blocks and rules. It has no mining, monsters or survival, just building.

Will my build be saved?

Yes. It is stored in your browser’s local storage on this device and reloads next time. Use the build code to move it to another device.

How do I build on a phone?

Tap a block in the palette, then tap or drag on the grid with your finger. Use the Undo button if you place the wrong block.
