How to use the Text to Speech

Listening is a great way to proofread your writing, rest your eyes, study while walking or make content accessible to people who find reading difficult. This tool uses the speech synthesis feature built into your browser and operating system, so it is free and works without sending your text to us.

Paste or type text and press Speak. The voice list shows every voice available on your device, grouped by language. Phones and computers usually include several high-quality voices, and some browsers add online voices marked as such. Choose one that matches the language of your text for correct pronunciation.

Adjust the speed from half to double, change the pitch and set the volume. While reading, the current word is highlighted under the controls in browsers that report word positions, so you can follow along. Long texts are split into sentences behind the scenes, which prevents the cut-offs some browsers have with long passages.

Pause and resume at any time, or stop to start again. Browsers do not allow saving synthesised speech as an audio file, but you can capture it with the screen recorder by sharing this tab with audio.
