How to use the Voice Recorder

Sometimes you just need to capture a thought, practise a speech, record a voice-over or send a quick audio message. This recorder works in any modern browser on computers and phones, with no app to install.

Press Start recording. The first time, your browser asks for permission to use the microphone; choose Allow. The wave line moves as you speak, which confirms the microphone is working and helps you keep a steady level. You can pause and resume within the same clip, and the timer shows its length.

Press Stop and the recording appears in the list with a player. Record as many clips as you like. Download saves the original compressed file, usually WebM with the Opus codec, which is small and high quality. Choose Download WAV for uncompressed audio that opens in almost any editor, at the cost of a larger file.

Noise suppression and echo cancellation clean up voice in noisy rooms; switch them off when recording music or ambient sound. Recordings stay in your browser’s memory and are deleted when you close or reload the page, so download anything you want to keep. Nothing is uploaded.
